"Project 70 was a free emergency hostel opened in an old church on Queen Street West. This night, I had arranged to stay over to capture the ambiance. My attention was caught by the kneeling woman who had severe stomach cramps. The staff reaction was, 'We thought you said you weren't on anything.' I didn't know a great deal about withdrawal pains, but said, "those could be appendix symptoms," called a cab and sent her off to Emergency. I got a call the next day to let me know she was indeed an emergency and had been operated on that night." Photo and commentary by Joan Latchford.Oh, such sweet romance! But any gentleman would have escorted her to the ER! Who knows, it could have ended with a proposal instead of a picture!
