I was born in the family with artistic roots; my father was an architect and had taught it for many years, but a great watercolorist too. I also continued in architecture, my art interests were different &mdash collage in my opinion has a very strong and laconic visual language. I like to make collages; it is for me as talking and listening, like dialogue or reaction on the events around me. I do not know why I like it; I cannot tell why I like music either.

Now I feel stronger about my collage language. It is a media where I can experiment with shape, structure, colour and ideas.

Sergei Sviatchenko is a Ukrainian-born, Danish-based architect and artist. Born in Kharkov, Ukraine, he graduated from the Kharkov Academy of Art and Architecture and obtained his Ph.D at the Kiev School of Architecture. In 1990, he moved to Denmark. He has held numerous solo and group exhibitions across Europe, Canada and the US. In 2002, he founded the Senko Studio, where Sviatchenko presents various pieces of art produced by emerging and promising artists and designers. Visit www.senko.dk for more information.

Sviatchenko has been commissioned by PricewaterhouseCoopers, Jyske Bank, Nokia, Grundfos, Sonofon, The Danish Business Academy and the Danish Parliament on numerous occasions to create art for architectural and environmental uses.

Sergei Sviatchenko was chosen as one of five emerging new art image-makers from around the world, to feature in the launch of the new May 2006 issue of Varoom magazine.
