THE ASSIGNMENT
Write a note from the field. Field Notes are short articles from Canada and around the world that appear near the front of each issue of The Walrus. Most Field Notes tell the story of a little-known person or phenomenon, and also illustrate something broader about the politics or culture of a country or region.
GRAND PRIZE
Your winning Field Note will be published on The Walrus’s website and your name will be printed in the magazine. You will also receive an honorarium of $500, the chance to work with a Walrus editor on the final draft of your Field Note, and a one-year subscription to The Walrus.
SECOND AND THIRD PLACE
The names of two runners-up will also be printed in The Walrus, and their Field Notes will be published on walrusmagazine.com.
